Journals

Hematology journals are indexed in MEDLINE.

MEDLINE Search Hint

Journal articles are indexed with the most specific terms appropriate to the subject matter of the article, e.g. "blood protein electrophoresis." To find articles on sickle cell anemia, search "anemia, sickle cell" rather than "anemia."

Do not substitute medical jargon or abbreviations for MeSH (Medical Subject Headings) for best results; for example, do not search "RBC count" rather than the MeSH "erythrocyte count."

Patient Education and Support

Many associations, listservs, and support groups raise money for research and education, and exchange information and encouragement for sufferers of hematologic conditions. Suggested sources of information about these groups include:

Many listservs and newsgroups are available for electronic discussion of hematology topics, such as Hem_Dr (for hematology physicians) and BMT-Dr (for physicians interested in bone marrow transplantation). To find the list for you, check the Hancock List or the Medical Matrix.
