Welcome to the UMKC Department of Pathology

This web site provides an introduction to the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine as well as links to more detailed information about our Residency Program.  We are committed to quality education for our residents while providing quality patient care in an efficient and timely manner.  We look for resident candidates who possess a passion for the field.  In other words, we are looking for candidates who choose to go into Pathology rather than those who yield to it for a number of reasons.  Your training will give you insight into the various practice arrangements seen in Pathology today (private, academic, administrative).   The program will give residents an opportunity to work in all these environments through our affiliated programs at Truman Medical Centers (Hospital Hill and Lakewood), Children’s Mercy Hospital, Saint Luke’s Hospital of Kansas City, and various other community programs.

Pathology is a rapidly changing specialty with new and innovative testing methods coming from the research areas to the clinical environment on a continual basis.  We pride ourselves on being the “last bastion of definitive diagnosis.”  We serve the clinicians, the hospitals and most importantly our patients with the skill, dedication, and attention that we give to our own family members.

On behalf of our faculty and residents, welcome to the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine.
