Internal Medicine Fellowships
The University of Missouri Kansas City offers a variety of fellowship
opportunities.
The fellowship programs select the best-qualified
candidates regardless of race, sex, creed, color, national origin,
handicap, or age. Criteria utilized by the Selection Committees for
selection are academic achievement, clinical competence, moral and
ethical qualities, compassion, social responsibility, collegiality, and
enthusiasm.
Candidate application requirements included:
* Electronic Residency Application System (ERAS)
* Recommendation letters from current internal medicine Program Director, plus two other strong letters of support.
* Extra effort in current IM program including:
a. Basic or clinical research
b. Publications
c. Involvement in program, i.e., Chief Resident, etc
* Current Curriculum Vitae including any research
* Personal Statement
* USLME Board scored >200, rarely will look at <180.
General Information
Cardiology Fellowship
Program Director: Alan Forker, MD
We use the NRMP Match for 3 slots each academic year.
In the academic years 2001-2006, 20% of the cardiology fellows were
former UMKC residents.
Critical Care Medicine Fellowship Application
Program Director: Diana Dark, MD
We interview for 1 slot each academic year. We do not participate in
the NRMP match. This is a newly accredited program that began in 2006.
Gastroenterology Fellowship Application
Program Director: Wendell Clarkston, MD
We use the NRMP
Match for 1 slot each academic year.
In the academic years 2000-2006, 80% of the gastroenterology
fellows were former UMKC residents.
Hematology/Oncology Application
Program Director: Jill Moormeier, MD
We use the NRMP
Match for 1 slot each academic year.
In the academic years 2000-2006, 100% of the
hematology/oncology fellows were former UMKC residents.
Infectious Diseases Application
Program Director: Alan Salkind, MD
We use the NRMP Match for 1 slot each academic year.
In the academic years 2000-2006, 40% of the infectious diseases fellows
were former UMKC residents.
Pulmonary/Critical Care Application
Program Director: Gary Salzman, MD
We interview for
2 slots each academic year. We do not participate in the NRMP match.
In the academic years 2000-2006, 46% of the
pulmonary/critical care fellows were former UMKC residents.
Sleep Medicine Fellowship Application
Program Director: Ann Romaker, MD
We interview for 1 slot each academic year. We do not participate in
the NRMP match. This is a newly accredited program that began in 2006.
