Welcome to the UMKC Department of Community and Family Medicine
I am pleased you have found our website! I believe you will be pleased with the information you find. Allow me to mention a few key points about the program.
Despite the many changes that have occurred in medicine in the past 25 years, one constant has been the mission of the Family Medicine Residency at UMKC: to recruit outstanding candidates for our program, and to provide them with unsurpassed training to produce “ideal” family physicians. The training occurs in a unique settinga university hospital devoted to the unopposed education of family medicine residents. Our clinical experiences are excellent, with emphases in women’s healthespecially obstetricsand geriatrics. We sponsor fellowships in both geriatrics and obstetrics. Additionally, our pediatrics experiences at TMC-Lakewood and Children’s Mercy Hospital provide unsurpassed pediatric education.
The learning atmosphere is a healthy one, with a good balance between work/education/responsibility for patient care and time for personal growth. The relationships between the residents and the faculty are supportive.
And, Kansas City is a great place to live: large enough to have all the amenities of a big city (including the Royals and the Chiefs), but with manageable traffic and a small town flavor.
