How can I propose a study abroad experience?
- Complete the Request by Faculty for Study Abroad Course Approval Form” and meet with Dr. Ravi Kallur, director of the Program in International Medicine, 235-1129 or kallurr@umkc.edu.
- Prepare expected outcomes and anticipated starting and ending dates by completing Curriculum Councils Elective/Clerkship Course Description Form.
- Submit the form for review and approval to Curriculum Council at least six months before the planned beginning date
- Obtain Curriculum Council approval before announcing it to students
- Seek the help of Program in International Medicine to promote student interest in this elective experience
- Have students sign up for specific course for academic credit through academic advisor/ETC.
- Have students follow the Student Guidelines as listed in the student section in these webpages
- Request Program in International Medicine (235-1129/1979) to arrange a meeting with Dr. Kallur, yourself, your students and the UMKC International Academic Programs office staff two weeks before the departure (make this a mandatory meeting for your students)
- Leave emergency contact information with the Program in International Medicine
- Upon your return, share a brief report with the Program in International Medicine office outlining any issues, concerns or suggestions for future trips
- Complete clinical performance evaluation forms for your students and submit the same to Evaluation Council
Provide contact names and other information to the Program in International Medicine so they can do a follow-up with your host by sending thank you letters, etc.
