For over thirty years, the Quarterly Profile Examination (QPE) has served the School of Medicine, its faculty and its students, extraordinarily well. It has been a measure of the quality of our curriculum and instruction. It has measured the acquisition and retention of basic and clinical science knowledge of individual students and thereby has given each student a regular picture of the growth of her/his knowledge base. It has also been an excellent predictor of how students will perform on Step 1 of USMLE.
However, after extensive thoughtful discussion by faculty and students, the Curr-Eval Committee, the Councils on Evaluation and Curriculum, and the Coordinating Committee recommended that the UMKC School of Medicine replace the QPE with the Comprehensive Basic Science Examination (CBSE) of the National Board of Medical Examiners.
For past QPE scores, please contact your ETC or the Council on Evaluation.
