Doctor of Medicine

The School offers two general tracks for medical students: a combined BA/MD and a MD program. The majority of students are enrolled in the combined program. Clinical experience and hands-on learning are integrated throughout all years of the program, teaching students the fundamentals of medicine during the first two years, and increasing patient and physician interaction and student responsibility in a clinical setting during the last four years. MD application deadline August 1.

Master of Science in Anesthesia

Master of Science in Anesthesia

Graduates of the MSA program have a 100 percent job placement rate as anesthesiologist assistants. This is one of 10 anesthesiologist assistant programs in the country and only one of the few housed within a medical school. Students complete clinical rotations at hospitals and health care facilities throughout Missouri and the Midwest. Application deadline July 1.

Master of Medical Science Physician Assistant

Master of Medical Science Physician Assistant

Students combine classroom and clinical training to prepare physician assistants to work in a variety health care settings. Physician assistants work under the supervision of a physician, diagnosing and treating illnesses, prescribing medication, ordering and interpreting lab tests, performing procedures, providing patient education and counseling, making rounds in health care centers and assisting in surgery. Application deadline August 1.

The Master of Health Professions Education and Graduate Certificate in Health Professions Education provide a strong foundation in teaching and assessment for educators from across the health professions discipline. All courses emphasize the application of educational theory to real world health instruction. The program is a collaboration between the schools of Education and Medicine. Application deadline August 1.

Bioinformatics

Bioinformatics

Biomedical informatics uses biomedical data for scientific inquiry, problem solving and decision making. The Master of Science in Bioinformatics equips graduates with the skills necessary to leverage informatics in the pursuit of patient-centered, health related research. The degree offers an emphasis in clinical research, computational or genomics study. The program also offers a Graduate Certificate in Clinical Research and participates in an interdisciplinary Ph.D. program. Application deadline August 1.

Current Admissions Updates

B.A./M.D. Program, Fall 2019: The fall 2019 General Application for Admission and the School of Medicine Supplemental Application will open in mid-August 2018. The application deadline for the fall 2019 class is November 1, 2018. All applications and application materials must be received by this date, and interview decisions will be communicated in late January, with final offers of admission going out by April 1.

M.D. Program, Spring 2019: Students interested in the MD program can APPLY NOW by August 1, 2018.  The deadline to apply is August 1, 2018 for those interested in beginning the program in spring 2019. Interviews will be held in October, and offers of admission will be communicated in late October.

Master of Science in Anesthesia Program, Spring 2019: Students interested in the MSA program for spring 2019 can APPLY NOW by July 2, 2018. Interviews will be held in late August, and offers of admission will be communicated in September.

Master of Medical Science Physician Assistant Program, Spring 2019: Students interested in the MMSPA program for spring 2019 can APPLY NOW by August 1, 2018. The application deadline for the MMSPA program is August 1, 2018 for those interested in beginning the program in spring 2019. Interdisciplinary Ph.D. Primary Discipline in Bioinformatics, Fall 2018: The application deadline for those interested in pursuing the Primary Discipline in Bioinformatics through the interdisciplinary Ph.D. at UMKC is April 1, 2018. Students can APPLY NOW and will be notified of their admissions decision for the Primary Discipline by early May, beginning coursework in August.

Why UMKC?

UMKC Hospital Hill Campus

Surrounded by hospitals, the UMKC Hospital Hill campus is home to the universities health science schools. In addition to the School of Medicine, the schools of Nursing, Dentistry, and Pharmacy are also located on this campus. The majority of Year 3 through 6 medical student’s courses and training are offered at this campus. The School’s master and certificate programs classes are held at the School of Medicine. The Hospital Hill campus also houses a Health Science library, university bookstore, and the Youngblood Skills Lab. Beginning Fall 2014, the Hospital Hill campus will also offer university housing at this campus. Located in the heart of the city, it is next to Crown Center and minutes from Downtown and the Country Club Plaza.

UMKC Volker Campus

Located four miles south of the Health Sciences Hospital Hill Campus, the Volker Campus offers a collegiate, urban setting in the midst of the city. Students in the B.A./M.D. program spend the majority of the first two years on this campus, while students in graduate and professional program may only visit this campus to access various student services such as the Student Union or the Student Success Center. Volker Campus is a short walk to the Country Club Plaza shopping area, a six-minute drive to historic Westport and 12 minutes from the Crossroads Arts Districts.
