Docent Team

Docent teams are the core of the UMKC School of Medicine.

Physicians trained in internal medicine are designated as "docents" and serve as full-time physician/faculty members. Each docent leads a unit of about 12 student representing years 3 through 6.

Four docent units make up a docent team. The team, in addition to students, consists of physicians, education assistants, clinical medical librarians and clinical pharmacologists. There are eight docent teams, designated by the colors blue, gold, green and red. Docent teams correspond with outpatient clinics at Truman Medical Center. In addition, a new purple unit with two teams of students was established at Saint Luke's Hospital of Kansas City in 2000.

Under the supervision of their docent, students diagnose and treat clinical outpatients who are assigned to their units continuing care panel. Docent units also are responsible for daily ward rounds at Truman during a two-month period annually. This rotation is known as Do-Ro
